Antioxidative effect of extracts from Erodium cicutarium L.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Extracts from Erodium cicutarium L. (EC) and some standard substances present in EC extracts were tested for their antioxidative properties during Fe(2+)-induced triglyceride oxidation. Hydrophobic fractions such as petroleum ether (PEE), benzene (BE) and chloroform I (ChE I) extracts as well as hydrophilic fractions i.e. water (WE) and ethyl acetate (EAE) showed an antioxidative effect. Among the tested substances vitamin C and some polyphenolic compounds: tannin, (+)-catechin and gallic acid exhibited antioxidative activity, stronger than the one of the mentioned extracts.

Six natural polyphenolic compounds, brevifolin carboxylic acid, brevifolin, ellagic acid, methyl gallate, gallic acid and protocatechuic acid have been isolated from the methanol extract of the whole plant of Erodium cicutarium (L.) L.'Hérit. (Geraniaceae). Structures were determined by conventional methods of analysis and confirmed by MS and NMR spectral analysis. The distribution of these com...
متن کاملHigh water-use efficiency and growth contribute to success of non-native Erodium cicutarium in a Sonoran Desert winter annual community
The success of non-native, invasive species may be due to release from natural enemies, superior competitive abilities, or both. In the Sonoran Desert, Erodium cicutarium has increased in abundance over the last 30 years. While native species in this flora exhibit a strong among-species trade-off between relative growth rate and water-use efficiency, E. cicutarium seems to have a higher relativ...
متن کاملSelf-burial Mechanism of Erodium cicutarium and Its Potential Application for Subsurface Exploration
Erodium cicutarium L. plants disperse their seeds by a combination of two dispersal strategies: explosive dispersal, and self-burial dispersal. As the fruits dry, the stresses developed in the structure cause the sudden separation of the seeds that fly away from the plant. Then, once on the ground, the seeds respond to variations in the external humidity : their dispersal unit, is helical when ...
متن کاملChromosome Numbers for Some Erodium L'Hér (Geraniaceae) Species of Iran
Erodium (Geranaiceae) species are distributed in different habitats of Iran. Some species are of medicinal importance while some are well known weeds. There are no chromosome counts for Erdoium species of Iran. Chromosome numbers are given for six taxa of Erodium (Geraniaceae) from Iran: E. cicutarium (2n=36), E. ciconium(2n=18), E. malacoides (2n=20), E. moschatum (2n=20), E. neuradifolium (2n...

Pseudomonas punonensis strain D1-6 was isolated from roots of the desert plant Erodium hirtum, near the Dead Sea in Jordan. The genome of strain D1-6 reveals several key plant growth-promoting and herbicide-resistance genes, indicating a possible specialized role for this endophyte.
